Profile

Mrs Bushra Iqbal MBE has worked for more than five decades to advance equality, strengthen community relations and support the participation of women, families and marginalised communities across Scotland. Drawing on lived experience and a Master’s degree in Multicultural Studies, she founded NLMWA, one of Scotland’s earliest grassroots organisations dedicated to helping people integrate, participate fully in society and develop as community leaders.

Her public-service experience includes advisory work with WSREC, Strathclyde Police and the Procurator Fiscal Service, contributing to policy, community engagement and trust between institutions and diverse communities. She was appointed a Member of the Order of the British Empire in 2008 for services to community relations and later delivered Time for Reflection at the Scottish Parliament.

At the Institute

As a co-founder and Board Member, Mrs Iqbal serves as a senior adviser to the Institute. Her judgement and long experience help guide its community partnerships, public-benefit work and commitment to education as a source of freedom, confidence and social progress.
