Bushra Iqbal

Mrs Bushra Iqbal MBE is a pioneering equality leader, educator, and community advocate whose work has contributed significantly to social cohesion and inclusion across Scotland for more than five decades. Drawing upon lived experience, she has dedicated her career to advancing equality, interfaith understanding, and the empowerment of women and marginalised communities. She holds a Master’s degree in Multicultural, founder of the NLMWA, one of Scotland’s earliest grassroots organisations supporting women, families, and young people to integrate, participate fully in society, and assume leadership roles within their communities. Mrs Iqbal has served extensively in advisory capacities, including as an Equality Advisor to WSREC, as a Special Advisor to Strathclyde Police, and in a consultative role supporting the Procurator Fiscal Service, contributing to policy development, community engagement, and the strengthening of trust between public institutions and diverse communities. In recognition of her services to community relations, she was awarded the Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in 2008. She was subsequently invited to deliver Time for Reflection at the Scottish Parliament. Co-founder of the Lo Presti Institute, given her vast experience, she serves primarily as a wise advisor, not just a trustee.
